Taboo Is On Hulu Right Now, And You Can't Miss It.
One of the creators is Steven Knight of Peaky Blinders fame. Tom Hardy and his father are co-creators along with Knight, and Ridley Scott is an executive producer.
I’m a sucker for period series or films, and this series takes place in 19th-century London. It’s gritty, depressing, raw and beautifully shot. The cinematography makes you feel like you are there with the characters.
The story is excellent. When I read the summary, I didn’t understand it, and the first episode focuses on building the world inhabited by the characters. It picks up in the following episodes, and it is worth the wait.
Tom Hardy’s character (James Delaney) arrives in London for his father’s funeral and wastes no time making enemies left and right. The main plot deals with Delaney inheriting a piece of land located between the USA and Canada border, and whoever owns the land gets to set the USA/Canadian border. The India trading company, The British government, and the American government are all after that piece of land, but Delaney won’t sell.
There’s a bit of action, a bit of espionage, there’s plot twists and turns in every episode. It’s just brilliant.
It’s currently streaming on Hulu and clocking it at 8 1 hour episodes, it will leave you wanting more, but it won’t take a lot of your time to binge-watch it.
