I watched “A Monster Calls” with my daughter two days ago. I had heard that it was a good film but never paid attention to it.

A Monster Calls deals with how a young kid deals with death. That is the reason, why this movie is needed right now with everything that is going on around us in the world right now. Even I, as an adult, learned a few things.

The movie stars Lewis Macdougall as Conor, a boy whose mother is terminally ill. Felicity Jones plays the mother. Sigourney Weaver plays Conor’s grandmother. Liam Neeson plays the monster, which sometimes sounds like Optimus Prime. That only made it sound cooler.

Conor gets a visit by The Monster one night to tell him 3 stories that will help him deal with his nightmare. Conor doesn’t understand what any of this has to do with him or his mother’s illness. The 3 stories are what sets the film apart and why I know it’s important to watch.

This film teaches that it’s ok to be sad. It’s ok to want something to happen even if you think it makes you a bad person. Things aren’t only black and white in this world. it’s not as easy as saying “Punish bad people”. Good people suffer and bad people live prosperous lives. That’s life.

The bottom line, it’s a good movie. It has good acting, great cinematography, and a very interesting message.
